Buick: Timeless Elegance on the American Roads

Refined, comfortable design and attention to detail have come to define a Buick vehicle. The American luxury vehicle maker, the Buick Motor Company, has a century-old history, beginning with engines. Today, it’s the brand for those looking for sophisticated interiors and smooth rides.

At Exhaust Plus - Complete Auto Repair, we know the value of your precious Buick. Our experts can help you maintain it well and fix common issues with great care.

Early History

Initially called the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, the company was founded in 1899 in Jackson, Michigan, by David Dunbar Buick. At the time, it produced internal combustion engines for other vehicle makers.

It ventured into automobiles and things quickly changed when Buick developed the first overhead valve engine (valve-in-head named by Buick). The revolutionary engine design changed the game for the company.

The company name was changed to Buick Motor Company, now headquartered in Flint, Michigan. Production of vehicles gradually increased over the years, eventually surpassing Ford in 1908.

While Buick continued to see success with new models throughout the 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s, the Buick brand as we know it today came about after World War II. The iconic models from the brand, such as Roadmaster, Riviera, and Skylark, came out during this period. In 1950, Buick launched the V8 engine.

In the 1960s and 1970s, the Buick lineup included the iconic Buick Special, LeSabre, Estate, and Riviera.

Modern History

Buick was somewhat of an underdog in its early decades, but the 1980s changed that. It broke sales records in the early 1980s, even won the pole position, and came in second place in qualifying for the Indianapolis 500.

By this time, Buick vehicles had earned a reputation for quality and reliability. For instance, in 1989, Buick City was ranked number one in North America for quality.

The brand continued its streak of awards and recognition even in the next decade. The redesigned Park Avenue won the "Best Car" award in the early 1990s. The redesigned Roadmaster and LeSabre were also successes, punching in record sales for the company.

Buick Today

Today, its lineup includes Buick Envision, Cascada, LaCrosse, Enclave, Encore, and Regal. The company also introduced the Avenir branding for top-of-the-line trims for its premium automobiles like Envision and Enclave.

Innovation has been a driving force for Buick since the beginning. However, modern Buick vehicles also focus on interior refinement with technologies like QuietTuning that ensure a quiet cabin. Its elegant design and advanced technology combine comfort and style, delivering an on-road experience you may only find with luxury vehicles.

As one of the oldest vehicle manufacturers in America, Buick is behind many of the innovations in the industry and may be credited for creating the biggest automaker in America, General Motors.

Buick is also inching towards electric vehicles and presented the Buick Wildcat EV concept car in 2022. It also plans to shift the lineup to electric by the end of the decade.

The gas-powered Buick vehicles are sturdy and timeless. They will retain their value for long, provided they’re maintained well. Our technicians at Exhaust Plus - Complete Auto Repair can ensure that your Buick keeps running perfectly, whether it’s brake pad replacement, wheel alignment, suspension upgrade, or any other necessary service.

Buick Maintenance

While service schedules vary by model, most Buick vehicles require maintenance every 7,500 miles or yearly. However, 5,000 miles is highly recommended for routine maintenance services like oil and filter changes, tire rotation, and fluids inspection. At 2,000 miles, cabin and engine air filters should be replaced.

As Buick is owned by General Motors, the brands' service schedules are similar. For parts, GM Genuine parts or ACDelco Original Equipment are recommended.
