Fiat History
Fiat, short for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino, was established in 1900. The first model was the Fiat 4 HP, with a humble 4.2 horsepower and two-cylinder engine.
Initially, the factory was small, but Fiat didn’t take long to expand. In just eight years, Fiat has started exporting vehicles to America and became a popular brand.
By 1916, Fiat become the most recognizable Italian automotive.
During the 1930s, the company launched the Fiat 500 Topolino, which would become Fiat's most important model.
In 1957, the new Fiat 500, a small city car with a 479 cc two-cylinder engine, was launched. By the end of the 1960s, Fiat had also purchased other Italian vehicle brands, including Lancia, Ferrari, and Maserati.
Modern History
In the 1970s, Fiat achieved a new production peak, with 1.7 million vehicles. Sadly, the company was hit by the oil crisis of 1973. In the 1980s, Fiat withdrew from the American market.
In the 1990s, Fiat continued producing vehicles, mainly for the European market. The Fiat Multipla launched in 1998. In 2007, Fiat launched the New Fiat 500 with even better fuel efficiency than its previous generation, paving the way to re-enter the American market in 2011.
In the 2000s, Fiat released two new models, the Fiat Doblo, a van, and Fiat Qubo, a compact family car.
In 2014, Fiat merged with Chrysler to form Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, one of the biggest companies in the world at the time. Today, it’s part of the Stellantis group.
Fiat has focused on subcompact cars like the Fiat Punto and Fiat Panda and compact cars like the Fiat Tipo (sedan), Fiat 500X (with Turbocharged engines), and Fiat 500L (mini MPV). In 2015, it launched the Fiat 124 Spider, a two-seater roadster manufactured by Mazda for Fiat. Exhaust Plus - Complete Auto Repair offers reliable and affordable routine maintenance services for all Fiat 500 variations.
The Fiat 500e (electric) was launched in 2013 in the United States as the brand pivoted toward eco-friendly cars. The second generation 500e was announced in 2020.
Fiat Maintenance
Fiat’s routine maintenance is based on 10,000-mile intervals, including tire rotation, fluid checks, and brake system inspection. However, oil changes may be required at 3,500 miles. If your vehicle has an oil change indicator, it will turn on when an oil change is needed.
Our experts recommend periodic checks at 600 miles or before long trips. Check the fluids and tire pressure. Speak to our technicians about when to inspect and service your vehicle's brake, transmission, and other critical systems.
