Built to Command: Discovering GMC's Commitment to Quality

GMC is an American automotive brand established in 1911. It has been around for well over a century and is now the subdivision of General Motors (GM).

Today, GMC vehicles are known for their exceptional quality, professional-grade engineering, industry-standard advanced safety features, automotive innovation, and cutting-edge technology. Despite superior automotive technology, GMC vehicles still require routine maintenance.

At Exhaust Plus - Complete Auto Repair, we provide top-quality service and parts to keep your GMC vehicle in optimal condition.

GMC History

Max and Morris Grabowsky were two brothers who laid the foundation of Grabowsky Motor Company, GMC's parent company. In 1902, they moved their company's operations to Michigan and renamed it Rapid Motor Vehicle Company. A few years later, in 1909, William C. Durant, co-founder of General Motors, acquired Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and rebranded it as General Motors Truck Company.

The company played an important role during both World War I and World War II, supplying trucks for military use. In World War I, GMC provided 8,512 trucks to the U.S. government. The company received the Distinguished Service Award for this contribution.

In World War II, GMC supplied over 600,000 trucks to the U.S. Armed Forces. Today, the company primarily manufactures:

  • SUVs
  • Mid-size trucks
  • Heavy-duty trucks
  • Full-size trucks
  • Crossovers.

Some niche sectors the brand has catered to are:

  • Fire trucks
  • Ambulances
  • Military vehicles
  • Transit buses
  • Motorhomes and more
